How to reduce fear and thrive after COVID 19

The Story Of Your Health

Eventually COVID 19 hit Australia, there was a lot of talk. You could almost feel the fear simmering away all around you. The news channels had very little other than COVID coverage around the world, my conscious, strategic nurses mind sprang into action, we had a family meeting and a plan of action for isolation  was created. In Today's episode, I will cover what you can do to survive and thrive in the health trauma that COVID 19 has put us through.

I do not know which part of the world you live but here is Australia, life is slowly moving forward, our community transmission is very low, the pockets that have flared have been well controlled.

We have had physical, mental, social, spiritual, emotional responses to COVID 19, some of these responses had made us better and showed us the more humane side of humans, and some of these responses has shown us the more evil side of humans

Different people deal with trauma differently, but in my humble experience I have gathered that we need to have a bit of many different ways, not only for our good but also because, if we deal with it solely buy our way we deal alone, and if we have patience and deal with trauma that includes others way too we deal together, heal better and bond stronger, this is how and why people have survived in communities better than they have individually.

This is what I miss, I come from a big family and for everything we will sit down and talk; we listen and listen and listen, some time someone becomes like a broken record, but we listen and of course some else who have had enough will pipe up to say, it's about time that you shut up. My family is a comedy circle as you know. But they have taught us well.

Unprecedented times was the word used again and again. Unprecedented, never known, never done, an experience we have never had, not that humanity has never had, they have had in the past, but not experienced by the generation ruling and being ruled now.

Ruth badima, my grandmother's eldest sister, the first woman to ever attain matriculation, that’s yr 10 equivalent and then later go on to become my island's first female teacher and principal. Tall, skinny lady, hair always in a bun, always accompanied by her only daughter. And her wise words to us, pray and pray always, look after your health and look after your education.

So many people will say I don’t believe in God. I am not religious, which God to pray to. Now let me make something clear for you. We all have a tendency to do good and evil.

We all need to do and be good, when we fulfill this need we feel better about yourself and the world. Prayer always does not mean sitting and going on and on, it is a way of life; I am christian by faith, many people are not, I believe in Jesus but many, many more do not believe in him, but live like him, a life of productive activity, a life of active contemplation, a life of sacrifice for the greater good of others. I have seen these qualities in my Hindu friends, in my christian friends, in my Muslim friends, in my Sikh friends and in my friends who proclaim to be of no religion. Prayer is a way of life my friend, its kindness in action.

Let's come to her second point, what is health - according to WHO health is a state of physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease.

This is what we say of peace too isn’t it, the Merriam-Webster dictionary  defines peace as a period of tranquility, even others as freedom from disturbance, we know real peace is very different from just the absence of hostility.

In real peace there is a feeling of safety, liberation and fulfillment. That does not mean things are not happening around us but just that we can deal with it, it is not a threat.

For health, just remember it is never about one thing, it is about your physical health, your mental health and your social health. You really need to take an inventory of your health. At this point, few things will pop up in your head, let me list some of those, try to smile when you hear a familiar one.

  • Easy for you to say.
  • Better said than done.
  • You have no other work.
  • Don’t  tell me what to do.
  • I don’t know how.
  • Just because you can do it, does not mean I can do it or others can do it.
  • I do not have time.
  • As if I Am not busy enough.

And many other things. All these mental chatter does not change the fact that this is really unprecedented times and we really need to look after our health. How do you do it, if you are really worried about something please go and see your GP?

Now to our third point, we have already covered Ruth Badi amma’s Trifacta  prayer, health and education.

For education my friend you need an open mind and a childlike curiosity. Once upon a time I had a bit of a long nose, if I did not know something, especially if I thought, I should be knowing it. I took it as an insult, and would not want to learn from the person teaching it or would not want to learn at all. I'm sure you will have had few words of wisdom for me.

Thank the lord, I grew out of it, an inflated ego has no place in thirsty for learning minds. How is one person to know it all, it is impossible, so get better at what you are good at and know where you need an extra hand, then go and find that opportunity and learn with your whole heart, In case of matters related to health, I am here, come and join the community! Make sure you are in our email list and FB messenger group. That’s where everyday magic happens. To celebrate our launch, we have many free training sessions, all on the topic of health, training for adults, training for parents too.

So if you want to thrive or just survive till you get to thrive, connect with the source that brings meaning in peace in your life, pray if you can, prayers need no words, most times it is about just sitting and being.

Just a nugget of wisdom, esp with us women, when you want to learn, not just listen but learn to make room for it, just sit down, cut out distraction, just concentrate on learning. Even if it's for 10 minutes.

Health takes an active role in your health and that of your loved ones, start with mental health.

Education arms yourself with information that really matters.

Till next time take care my friend.
