Our Story
The Story of the Story Of Your Health podcast.
One when I was planning and preparing for the launch of The Story Of Your Health podcast, I had dreamt of a bright beautiful sunny day, having friends to come and celebrate and have several reviews and downloads.
Some dreams were just not meant to come true the first time. Most of last year I invested in preparing a platform to release my podcast so I knew enough people who can review and download my podcast the day and week it was released, I did this through having a social media page; the page was getting a lot of traction, visitor engagement, shares and likes and suddenly the whole page disappeared. I was so sad I put everything on hold, then I tried again and just before the release the COVID 19 restriction started and so we had to change our plans again. So here I am again, and this time I did it. So please make sure you are in our email list which gives you free access to our members vault, with some of the best free training for our members.
The podcast actually was just a dream till I joined toastmasters. Then I met some amazing people who because of their own journey and in their kindness showed me a way of fulfilling my own dreams. For my level 4 project, I choose to do a podcast, and instead of just doing any podcast I choose the topic I have been dreaming about, “how to help people have better health - better physical health, better mental health, better emotional health and better spiritual health.
A word of caution here, English is not my first language, and much is lost in translation. And mix this with my personal brand of quirkiness sometimes, the final product can be a bit you know what I mean. Worry not in due time you will get used to me and my expressions
So if you thought I said health too many times, let me assure you, it's not too many. When people think of health, they think of diet and exercise. Now
if you are not confused enough or busy enough, try searching for the best diet and best exercise, that should keep you busy for next year. Too many choices confuse us and confusion exhausts our brain, making choosing healthy choices very difficult.
In this podcast you will hear about health from a nurses perspective. Now not every family can have a nurse, that is why you have me. Added bonus, I love all things preventative medicine and complementary medicine. I love to talk about things that will help prevent many of the lifestyle illnesses we have and also if we do get sick what are the other things you can do along with following your doctor's instructions.
I still do bedside nursing and teach nursing, no one wears as many hats as a nurse does. At work I have to educate the patient, motivate the patient, feed them sometimes, bathe and clothe them sometimes, sit with them as they cry, listen to them complain or shower their blessings.
I still remember the day my parents and I were in Delhi, awaiting to see if I got selected to work in Australia. I have interviewed with 2 different organizations. The lady came out and said, congratulations Aruna, you got selected at both places and now choice is up to you. One was a hospital in Melbourne and other was a nursing home in Sydney, as I also have a diploma in Counselling, it worked in my favour.
After the initial euphoria settled, the dilemma started. We had never heard of Melbourne, and we did not know what a nursing home was. So the lady explained, the nursing home was a place where elderly people lived, this got my mother's attention, you should have seen her face, real comedy, my parents took me aside and decreed I am choosing nursing home as it holds double benefits. You see in my culture, looking after the elderly earns you many blessings and if you can make money, while earning blessings means, I should not ask anything more, I should just take the job. I am glad I did.
There comes a point in our lives that we need to fill a greater role, and now I feel the time has come to step up in serving people in more ways that just bedside nursing, it is time to educate.
As a nursing student I read a quote “what do we live for , if not to make life less difficult for each other” and it had a profound effect on me. Not just the quote, but also how I found it. You see, I trained in a catholic charitable hospital. We used to have a nun there, she was a pastoral care none. I do not know where she is now, I was in her office one day, it was almost in a dungeon, a small room as bare as a nuns quarter, it had one notice board, that notice board had a prayer and this quote stuck on it. I could see why that nun found it so important, it sums the life of a christian so eloquently and so profoundly. This particular nun, I forget her name now, was a little more that 5 feet, white habit, and black veil. She would walk so fast that it would give an impression that she is floating. An ever-present smile on her face. I always found her larger than life. It's almost 20 years since graduation and she still remains blissfully unaware of the fact that her choice and her kindness and her courage and selfless giving is still guiding my choices. May god bless her, and all like her.
Nursing has also taught me how fragile life is, I have seen death and I have seen suffering, at all ages of life. I have also seen serenity and even joy at the face of death and I have seen anxiety and regret.
Hence my heartfelt endeavour, if you have a few years to enjoy don’t you want to enjoy it? And from my own experience I can teach you what I think is important for people to know, to have a physical, mental and social health.
So this podcast is about how you can look after your health both physical and mental health, so you can remain healthy and if you get sick or have surgery, how you can recover better.
Health is not just about not being sick, health is about the optimal state of being, it isn't just about a healthy body but also about the health of mind and soul.
Many people take health as their right, it isn't. It may be given to most, but if you do not look after it, then you will regret. We can not live forever, but we want to live a fairly healthy and happy life.
In specific the topics of the near future is
Health of Mind as in
